The TFWA exhibition will address the business movements within the duty free and travel retail channels. ‘A new era: reinventing duty free and travel retail’ is the theme of the one-day conference, which will open TFWA World Exhibition on 18 October, at the Palais des Festivals, Cannes. The forum will allow high-powered individuals to challenge traditional concepts of airport, airline, marine and border retail. After an analysis of the state of the industry, its trading environment and future prospects by TFWA President Erik Juul-Mortensen, the keynote speaker Jean-Paul Agon, CEO of L’Oréal, will share his thoughts on how the industry should reinvent itself. L’Oréal is the industry’s leading group with an annual sale of almost $2.5 billion globally in 2009, representing 7.2 percent of global duty free and travel retail revenue. Other speakers include: Sir Alan Watson, Chairman of Havas Media UK, part of the global advertising network, which has published research on ‘Sustainable Futures.’ He will speak on how consumers perceive businesses and brands in their drive for sustainability and how this perception affects their purchasing decisions. Branding expert Martin Lindstrom will reveal his insights into the impact of the senses, inbuilt rituals and subconscious messages on consumer behaviour. Lindstrom will also share his thoughts on why consumers buy or don’t buy, with particular reference to the duty free and travel retail shopping environment.
